A 13-0 win against Hughson on Wednesday got the week started off well for Escalon’s JV softball girls. They followed it up with an equally impressive 12-3 win over Ripon on Friday.

Against the visiting Lady Huskies, Kylee DuBois got the start and went three innings, striking out four with Bella Strach pitching two innings with three strikeouts.

“We had two double plays in the game,” explained head coach Malinda Walker.

Jessie Fernandez gobbled up a grounder at second base early on in the contest and tossed it to shortstop Lexy Underwood covering the bag, with Underwood then making the throw to Priscilla Nowling at first to complete the double play. The same three combined later in the game for another 4-6-3 putout.

“Great defense,” noted Walker. “Offensively, Priscilla Nowling went 2-for-4 on the day with three RBIs, Bella Strach went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs on the day.”

Back on the home diamond for the second contest of the week, the JV girls easily handled Ripon on Friday afternoon.

“Kylee pitched the first three innings with three strikeouts,” Walker said of DuBois starting the game against the visiting JV Lady Indians. “Bella pitched the second three (innings) with eight strikeouts.”

Ripon did take an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning and adding two more in the fifth, though the game by then was out of reach.

“We scored six in the first inning, one in the second and five in the fifth,” noted Walker. “Leadoff single by Jessie Fernandez followed by a single by Kylee DuBois started the first inning rally with more singles by Bella Strach, Lexy Underwood and Grace Fitzgerald.”

Strach also had a shot to center that scored a pair of runs as the JV team put the game in the win column.
