JV Girls Split Pair Of Road Contests

On the road for two games this week, the Escalon JV basketball girls split the pair, winning at Riverbank and falling at Ripon.

They were 45-20 winners on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and coach Kacey Cheary said the team shot well on the night.

“We had a lot of scoring and took a lot of shots,” Cheary agreed. “Alexa Gomez had 11 points and Daisy Camacho had nine, a lot of Daisy’s points came off the boards and free throws.”

The victory saw Escalon take control early in the game and hold off Riverbank, maintaining a solid lead throughout the contest.

They were hoping to keep the momentum rolling as they headed out on the road again on Thursday. They met Ripon in the Feb. 4 game but fell in a 29-18 final.

“We played well but we had spurts where we just didn’t make good decisions with the ball,” admitted Cheary.

Madison Kindberg had six points to lead the JV Lady Cougars, Gomez had five.

“We were ahead 11-4 in the first quarter, but after that we scored less and less each quarter,” Cheary said. “And Ripon is a tough team.”

A busy week for the girls will have them at home for two and on the road for one game. They were scheduled to host Ripon Christian on Tuesday, after The Times went to press and will be at Hilmar on Thursday. They come home for a Friday night game, Feb. 12 hosting Hughson with a 6 p.m. tip off time.
