Golfers Craft Home Win

With just one match on their schedule this week, the Lady Cougars golf team made the most of it. They handled visiting Argonaut by a 166 to 218 final on Tuesday at the Escalon Golf Course.

Leading the way was Angelica Fernandez with a 39, with Amanda Rickman and Madison Kindberg close behind at 42. Carding a 43 was Ellie Cunningham and rounding out the score were Shelby McCune at 46, Mary Adams at 48.

“This is Argonaut’s first year in league,” noted Escalon head coach Kristie Cathcart. “Some of the girls had better scores today than last week and some were a lot higher. All players received all league points in this match”

A Thursday match originally scheduled with Calaveras was instead a bye, as there is no longer a Calaveras golf team.

“We still aren’t where we would like to be as a team,” admitted Cathcart, who said the girls will have plenty of opportunity to work on their game with a busy week ahead.

They were scheduled to compete in the Yellow Jacket tournament on Monday, play current league-leading Ripon at Jack Tone on Tuesday, and then will be home on Thursday, Sept. 22 to take on second place Bret Harte in a 3 p.m. contest.
