The results were all good for Escalon’s varsity golf girls this past week, as they put a pair of match wins in the book and took top honors at the league mid-season competition.

The mid-season tourney was hosted at the par 72 Micke Grove course and Escalon came in just under 400, carding the lowest score.

“As a team we took first overall,” said coach Kristie Cathcart. “We shot a 399, second place team was Bret Harte with a 423, then Ripon with 424 and Summerville at 444.”

Madison Kindberg shot a 90, coming in with the lowest score overall. Also competing for Escalon were Mary Adams, 96; Ellie Cunningham, 105; Amanda Rickman, 108; Mikayla Schut, 115; Shelby McCune, 129.

“Very proud of the girls,” added Cathcart.

In match play, Escalon took a 209-220 win over Summerville at the par 35 Phoenix Lakes course.

Kindberg shot a 42, Schut and McCune came in at 55, Adams carded a 57, Rickman with a 61 and Cunningham came in at a 63.

“We had a hard time last year with this course. I was a little nervous starting this match since Summerville just beat Sonora on their course a couple days before,” Cathcart explained. “We were losing after the first two groups. Thankfully our last group, Mikayla and Shelby, had really good scores.”

Closing out the week on the road at Ripon, Escalon carded a 156-168 win at the par 31 Jack Tone course.

Leading the way once again was Kindberg at 33. Adams also shot in the 30s with a 38 on the course, with Rickman coming in at 41. They were followed by Schut at 44, Cunningham at 45 and McCune at 47.

“It’s always good to beat Ripon,” Cathcart said.

Action this week for the varsity was scheduled to include hosting Bret Harte on Tuesday, after The Times went to press. The only league loss for the girls so far this season came to Bret Harte in the first round of league play.

The JV girls, meanwhile, were scheduled to play on Monday and will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
