Opening up the Trans-Valley League campaign this past week, the youngest Escalon boys crafted a win on the home court before losing on the road.

They defeated Riverbank, 70-44, to kick off a trio of TVL games on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Against the visiting Bruins, the host Escalon freshmen were paced by a 17-point night from Demetrius Teixeira, 16 points from Logan Webster and 15 points from Ty Harris. Ty Snow was also in double figures with 10 points. Other players contributing in the victory were Dillon Watson with six points, Daniel Gonzalez with four and Eli Lattig with two.

The squad played a balanced contest, with coach Dave Anderson noting that they scored 14 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second to put 35 points on the board in the first half. They repeated the total in the second half, with 16 points in the third quarter, 19 in the fourth.

The squad easily outdistanced the visiting Bruins to get the league opening victory.

On the road Friday night at Ripon, it was a different outcome, with the host Indians defeating Escalon by a 70-58 final. Again, the freshmen were consistent, scoring 14, 13, 16 and 15 points over the four quarters. Ripon was just a handful of points better.

Leading Escalon was Webster, pouring in 20 points in a strong effort. Watson added 13, Harris put in 12 with nine from Lattig and four from Blake Mattos rounding out the scoring.

The frosh boys were scheduled to take on Ripon Christian in a home game on Tuesday, Jan. 9 after The Times went to press and host Hughson in a 4:30 p.m. contest on Friday, Jan. 12.
