Four Lady Cougars made it another day of breaking records when they competed at the Sac-Joaquin Sections Track and Field Meet this past Thursday at CSU Stanislaus.

In the 800 meter race, senior Yajaira Salinas finished nearly five seconds ahead of the next competitor, setting a new meet record. Her time of 2:16.63 beat the previous record of 2:17.57 set by Hannah Hull in 2012. In the last event of the day, the girls 4X400 team (Jackie Lau, Gabby Rigg, Yajaira Salinas and Sidney Lima) broke their previously set record by running 4:08.51, a two second improvement, good enough for a second place finish. Salinas and the 4X400 meter team will move on to compete at the Masters Meet on Thursday, May 25 in Elk Grove.

“It is really rewarding to see these ladies’ hard work and determination pay off,” said head coach Carrie Nash. “We are very proud of the 11 athletes that competed at the sections meet. They represented a wide range of events and for all of them it was great experience competing at higher level of completion.”

These athletes included: Yajaira Salinas (800m, 4X400m relay), Sidney Lima (300m hurdles, 4X100m relay, 4X400 relay) Rex Robbins (200m), Juan Lopez (1600m, 3200m), Ashley Titsworth (4X100 relay), Jackie Lau (4X100m relay, 4X400m relay), Shelby McCune (discus), Ashleigh Strand (shot put), Christian Brunetti (long and triple jumps), Zach Pickett (high jump) and Jessikka Gonzalez (high jump).
