Staying in top form, Escalon's Cody Hodgson has gotten a taste of the stock car circuit, competing in a race on June 20 at The All American Speedway in Roseville.
"After only two days of testing with Nascimento Motor sports showing very good speed, the team felt I was ready to compete," said Hodgson, who will be a senior at Escalon High in the fall. "I qualified 11th in the 20 car field for the first 50 lap race. I was making good ground during the race but got turned around at the halfway point, sending me to the rear of the field. The rear of the field was a lot rougher than the front and contact with another car would leave me sitting in the infield for the last 5 laps."
When the car got back to the pits, Hodgson said everyone from the team went to work.
"Fortunately most of the damage was just in the body kit so they tore off the fenders and hood, ground on some metal and it was good to go for the last 50 lapper," the teen said. "I started on the last row in 20th and worked my way through all of the carnage and brought home a 10th place finish."
The teen said he was excited to get a chance to step in to the stock car world for a brief spin.
"I can't thank all the guys from Nascimento Motor sports enough for all their hard work and coaching the last couple of weeks and can't wait to get back in the car," he said.
Meanwhile, he still continues his competition in the Pro Kart circuit, racing in the KF2 category of the Pro Kart South series.
