Great Start To The Season For Escalon Outlaws

It was a great season opener for all four of the Escalon Outlaws youth football squads at Delhi on Saturday.

The day started off with the Junior Novice team, which did well on the field. Although scores are not kept for Junior Novice they made nine touchdowns. Game highlights showed Paul Ayala with two fumble recoveries, and a tough offense with a great passing attack. Touchdowns were made by Estephan Salcedo, Steven Grossi, Hunter Van Boven, and Austin Faria.

The next game was a shutout by the Outlaws with a winning score 46-0. Hunter Calton, Daniel Gonzalez, Hashem Naraghi, and Marvin Lawrence made touchdowns that led to this amazing Novice game score against the Delhi defense. Head Coach Larry Gonzalez stated that he was proud of every boy on the team, and wanted to acknowledge the offense for the outstanding blocking throughout the game. High marks went to Styles Madrid, Chris Pilcher, and Jacob Perata for playing great defense.

Junior Varsity, whose winning score was 36-6, played impressive on the field. First half of the game showed great defense led by Lance Davis, who recorded a sack. There was a 25-yard pass from Jacob Danhoff to Tyler Lawrence that set up a touchdown score by Frankie Bavaro. Billy Marr added to the Outlaw score with a two-yard touchdown plunge. Second half action saw the boys come out with a vengeance. Billy Marr scored once again with a two-yard run. Jordan Powell powered his way into the end zone from three yards out for a touchdown. Brandon Grogan also contributed to the scoring to cap a great Outlaw game. Lastly, Thomas Diniz showed off his golden leg, by kicking three PATs that gave the team six extra points throughout the game.

The Varsity squad was able to claim victory over Delhi by a score of 36-0. The first half of the game showed Eduardo "Lalo" Cortes, effectively running the ball on offense, which set up a 10-yard touchdown made by Garrett Wade. Robert Steves contributed to the score later with a touchdown; extra point kick made by Brent Montgomery. Johnathon Costa recovered an onside kick, and ended the quarter with a touchdown. The second half showed an even tougher defense and offense. Rafael Felix and Austin Cooper contributed to the final score with two touchdowns. Brent Montgomery had three PATs, which gave the Varsity Outlaws six extra points. Lastly, a well deserved shout out goes to defense for holding hard against Delhi.

The next Outlaws game will be Saturday, Aug. 30 at Escalon High School against the Manteca Buffalos. Game times are Junior Novice 1 p.m., novice 3 p.m., junior varsity 5 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.
