The Cougars claimed Trans-Valley League honors on Monday, April 29 at the league tournament.

“With a score of 440, we tied with Ripon, but our sixth man score was James Wentzell’s 100, to their 104, that was the tiebreaker,” said head coach Ron Gutierrez.

Escalon was paced by Dan Bava 82, Steve Gately 83, Nathan Sarkozy 88, Matt Spurgeon 92, Ian Gregg 95 and James Wentzell 100.

Bava, Gately, Sarkozy and Spurgeon received All-League Honors, as did the team of Cougar coaches, tapped as Coach of the Year.

Gutierrez, in his first year, said the honor will be shared by himself and his assistant coaches, but added that it goes deeper than that.

“Thank you Rusty Fachner, for mentoring a great group of young men,” Gutierrez said. “We only hope to continue yours, and Escalon’s tradition of, “Compete with Honor”.

He said he and the team also want to offer thanks to the administration, parents, and “this wonderful community, for your incredible support.”
