Golfers Bag League Win Over Hilmar

Like many sports during the past week, rain curtailed the action for Escalon's golf boys, though they did take the course for one Trans-Valley League match.

"We missed the first part of the week but we got one match in with Hilmar at Stevinson Ranch, we played on Thursday," said coach Stan Maggard. "It went pretty well for us, we won 216-231."

The par 36 course is a championship course and Maggard said his team did well, playing on a windy day and dealing with a little water on the course.

Travis Jackson had a solid round, going two over par on the day to come in with a 38. Jason Pires was also on target, shooting a 41. Austin Jackson and Jeff Dugo each shot a 45 and, though one score was dropped, both Cameron Kisst and Garrett Heapy carded a 47.

"It was a reasonably nice day," Maggard added.

The Cougars were washed out of a scheduled match with Ripon on Tuesday, March 22 and will make that one up on Wednesday, April 6.

Other action for the week saw the Cougars play at the Ty Caplin Tournament on Monday, March 21 and Maggard said Travis Jackson had the best outing for the team there.

The boys were slated to use spring break to get in a little practice time, playing courses in the Monterey area. They will play in the Atwater Tournament, then face off with Ripon and Patterson when they return from the break.

"We'll be busy," said Maggard.
