As the calendar turns to June, there are a number of events planned for residents looking to enjoy the outdoors this summer.
Wildlife areas, ecological reserves and other properties may be closed due to wildfires or storm damage. Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to check for closures before leaving on any recreational trip.
Various Days
Wetland Meet and Greet at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley. Meet with a wildlife naturalist from the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. This 15-minute interactive orientation may include information about Gray Lodge origins, assistance with identifying wildlife or behavior patterns or a brief explanation of conservation management. Sundays
Tot Time at Nimbus Fish Hatchery, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River. Join in every Sunday for Tot Time at Nimbus Fish Hatchery Visitor’s Center where there will be nature-themed stories and a fun craft. Recommended for children ages 2-7 years, with parent/guardian supervision. There is no cost for these events and registration is not required. June 2
Big Game Drawing Deadline. The deadline to submit applications for elk, pronghorn, bighorn sheep and premium deer tags is June 2, 2023. Sales transactions must be completed before midnight. Hunters may apply at select CDFW license sales offices, online, license sales agents or by calling telephone sales at (800) 565-1458.
