With over 500 wrestlers at the recent State ranking event hosted in Oakdale, Escalon Wrestling Club head coach Derek Scott said it was probably the toughest regular season event on the schedule.

“We had 25 wrestlers at the event representing EWC. We came away with nine hard fought medals,” Scott said.

Following are results from the Oakdale event, with names spelled as provided.

9-10 Beginner Division:

Conner McDowell and Luke Conradi both continued to impress taking second.

Continuing his dominance was Beau Morgan.

9-10 Experienced Division:

Placing and adding to their point total for the season was the greatly improved Ben Gonzales taking third, with Ramon Hinojosa rounding back to form after struggling a bit last year. Looking physical and impressive again was Luca Cerasi.

11-12 and 13-15 Year Old Division:

Wrestling a great tournament showing great promise was Anthony Jones taking second place.

Workhorse JW Mills out-toughed several more talented wrestlers to earn a hard fought third place victory.

Once again looking physically dominant to the competition was tournament champion and reigning State Champion, Alex Guitierez.

Coaching and organizing the event were club officers Derek Scott and Brianne Cerasi, along with assistance from Clinton Siezuela, Jeremy Mills and Larry Lawrence with EHS wrestlers all contributing to the tournament and team’s success.

Currently EWC has six wrestlers ranked in the State rankings, Luca Cerasi third, 9/10 year olds; Ben Gonzalez seventh, 9/10 year olds; Daulton Shinn sixth, 9/10 year olds; Alex Guitierez third, 9/10 year olds; Anthony Jones seventh, 11/12 year olds; and JW Mills ninth, 13/15 year olds.
