The SCWAY zone 2 State qualifying tournament at Oakdale High School was hosted in mid-February, with the top six qualifying.

Results for the event follow, with names spelled as provided.

Continuing to be tough in stacked weight classes were: fifth place Houston Sizuela – State Medalist, 3x state qualifier; Christian Rowe – State Medalist, 4x state qualifier; fourth place Conner McDowell – 1st year wrestler, he just fights and tries to break the guy down; third place Daulton Shinn – really battling to qualify and be tough, 2x State Qualifier, State medalist; JW Mills - 2x State Qualifier – greatly improved, real testament to the word perseverance. Second place Cecilia Bargas – 1st year wrestler; Luca Cerasi - 4x state qualifier- 2x state medalist, former State finalist; Alex Gutierrez- 3x state finalist – 2x state champion. Earning championship honors was Sam Hinojosa - 6x state medalist , 8x State qualifier.

Saturday and Sunday March 16 and 17, EWC took eight wrestlers to the state tournament at Buchanan high school.

Wrestling in Session 1:

5-6 Age Division:

Cecilia Bargas – Eighth place, in her 1st year of action earning a State Medal.

Session # 2:

9-10 year old Division:

Houston Sizuela, Conner Mc Dowell - did not place; fourth place, Luca Cerasi - 3x State Placer - had a great day of wrestling in a very competitive and deep weight class.

13-15 year old Division:

Christian Rowe, JW Mills did not place; third place Alex Gutteirez - Losing by one point in a controversial match against home town Buchanan wrestler. Just missing out on his fourth straight finals appearance, 5x State placer, 2x State Champion; second place Sam Hinojosa - making the finals for the first time narrowly missing out on a state title in the fourth overtime round, 7x state placer.

The team registers for Reno Worlds this week to compete on April 5-7.

EWC spring practice continues until mid-May on Tuesdays and Thursday 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
