The Escalon freshman Cougars overwhelmed the undermanned Argonaut Mustangs 33-0 this week for their third consecutive win. Escalon capitalized on five Argonaut turnovers to up their season record to 2-1 in league play and 4-2 overall.

Hunter Calton opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 46-yard run, and David Martinez kicked the point after for a 7-0 lead. Calton scored again on a 40-yard run in the second quarter.

Fullback Dustin Lawrence continued his season of powerful running, scoring from 4 yards out late in the first quarter. Styles Madrid added the extra point for a 14-0 Cougar lead.

Escalon subbed early and often beginning in the second quarter, allowing the second team to enjoy plenty of work.

Also scoring for the Cougars were David Martinez on a 9-yard run in the second quarter and Wyatt Cockrell on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

"That gives us three solid performances in a row," noted Coach Roger Beeman. "It is especially good to see the growth of the second team. We are developing some much needed depth."

With Modesto Christian and Riverbank not fielding freshman teams, Escalon will close league play Thursday at Hilmar with a chance to secure second place in the Trans-Valley League. Ripon remains unbeaten at the freshman level in TVL action.
