Cougar Tennis Team Shuts Out Linden

Playing their last preseason match this past week, Escalon tennis players took a 9-0 victory off the court against Linden.

The March 12 match in Escalon, said coach Jackey Blakeley, was one that saw the Cougars sweep the Lions in convincing fashion.

Boys singles #1 Wyatt McCune won 6-1, 6-0 with boys singles #2 Chaz Cisneros winning 6-2, 7-5. Girls singles #1 Mya Beary won 6-2, 6-0; girls singles #2 Mikayla Schut won 6-0, 6-0.

Boys Doubles action saw the #1 team of Jack Fitzgerald and Eli Lattig win 6-1, 6-1, with Boys Doubles #2 Evan Shafter and Gino Stern getting an automatic win as Linden did not have players for the match.

In Girls Doubles #1 play, Elizabeth Shelley and Madison Faria won 6-0, 6-0; Girls Doubles #2 Madelyn Page and Ella Adams won 6-0, 6-0.

Rounding out the 9-0 sweep was the Mixed Doubles team of Trent Berchtold and Kara Kennedy, winning 6-0, 6-0.

“Our team played great and we are looking forward to season starting up this coming week,” said Blakeley.

The Cougars were slated to travel to Ripon High School for a Tuesday, March 19 match to start the Trans-Valley League and will host Hughson in a home match on Wednesday, March 20.
