Cougar Squads Looking Toward Busy Preseason Schedule

There is plenty of action looming for Escalon High School fall sports teams, with a full slate of contests on the schedule during August.

For the JV and varsity football teams, they start the season on the road with a scrimmage at Argonaut on Friday, Aug. 16 with the JV on the field at 7 p.m. and the varsity starting at 8 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 23 the Cougars will be on the home field for their opener, hosting the Union Mine Diamondbacks with the JV game at 5 p.m.; varsity at 7 p.m. Then on Friday, Aug. 30 it will be a game at Calaveras, with the Cougars traveling for a 5 p.m. JV game, 7 p.m. varsity start.

Freshman football will be on the road for a scrimmage at Downey High School in Modesto on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 11:30 a.m., and then will be home to host Chavez on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.

Varsity, JV and freshman volleyball squads will be at the GEBO scrimmage at Beyer for round robin action on Saturday, Aug. 17 facing off with Golden Valley, Beyer and Oakdale during the day. That will be followed by a game against Enochs on the Escalon court, set for Friday, Aug. 23 with the freshmen at 4:30 p.m., JV at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.

A busy August continues for the girls with a trip to the Orestimba Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 24. Monday, the varsity will host Calaveras in a 7 p.m. contest for the Foundation Game. Wednesday, Aug. 28 will see the teams travel to Orestimba and they round out the month with a game at home, hosting Linden on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The girls golf team has a practice round scheduled at Micke Grove on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and then will host Hilmar on the Escalon course on Thursday, Aug. 22. Monday, Aug. 26 sees Linden come to town while the Lady Cougars go on the road for a Thursday, Aug. 29 contest against Argonaut at Castle Oaks.

Cross country runners will battle in their teammate vs. teammate Purple and Gold Scrimmage at Mission Park at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Friday, Aug. 23 will see the Cougars head to Lodi Lake for the Flame Invitational at 3 p.m., followed by a Saturday, Aug. 31 appearance in the Thunder Invitational at Atwater.
