Brumley Girls Help Gators To Team Title

It came down to the final race on Saturday at Pitman High School in Turlock, with the Oakdale Gators capturing the Mid Valley Swim League title by just a handful of points over runner-up Manteca.

Claire Brumley and Rosebud Brumley of Escalon are among the local swimmers on the team, and both participated in a number of events, bringing in points to aid the team in the victory.

The Gators totaled 982.5 points in the season finale meet, Manteca was second with 969. Third went to Tracy, with Hughson fourth, Ripon fifth and Ceres finishing sixth.

Claire swam three individual events in the girls 15-16 category. She placed fourth in the 50 breast in 39.15; fifth in the 50 fly, 33.19; and seventh in the 100 individual medley, 1:16.44. She also swam with the girls 15-18 medley team and placed eighth with the 200 medley squad, 2:26.02.

Best event of the day for Rosebud, in the 11-12 girls category, was her eighth place showing in the 50 freestyle event. She was the top Oakdale finisher in that event, swimming the course in 30.80. She placed ninth in the 50 breast at 40.06 and was 16th in the 100 individual medley in 1:24.34.

On relay teams, Rosebud swam to a third place showing with the 200 medley squad, 2:18.68 and was fourth with the 200 free team, 2:03.06.

There were 104 swimmers at the meet representing the Gators.
