The Tri-Valley Blazers baseball team won three of four games in Sacramento at the Fathers' Day Classic June 19-20.

The team beat Walnut Creek. 5-4, topped Shingle Springs. 8-3. and pounded Whittier. 13-2 before falling 4-3 to Orinda in eight innings.

Escalon players had a key role in each of the games, as K.J. Vandagriff doubled in the opener against Walnut Creek and singled and scored against Shingle Springs. Escalon's Peter Krumeich also pitched a perfect two innings of relief in the latter game.

Krumeich had two hits against Whittier, and also pitched relief in the tough loss to Orinda, retiring 11 straight batters at one point.

"Krumeich was unhittable," said coach Mark Mangini. "I haven't seen a pitcher yet who throws as hard as he does."

In earlier action, the Blazers pounded the Modesto Spikes, 16-2, on June 15 at the Riverbank diamond. Oakdale's Joey Norwood had a long 3-run homer and finished 4-for-5, and Riverbank's Adan Mercado had three hits.

Overall for the Escalon players, Krumeich has a stellar 2.71 ERA on the season and is batting .304 at the plate. Vandagriff is hitting .394 with three doubles, and Jesse Miguel is batting an even .500 despite only appearing in four games on the year thus far.
