Escalon's 11- and 12-year-old boys All Star baseball squad is headed to the State Tournament in Fresno.
Finishing in the top three of the regional Cal Ripken competition along with Lodi and Tracy, the Escalon All Stars will advance with their Central Valley counterparts to the Fresno tournament that starts on Thursday, July 10.
"In the three years we have been with Cal Ripken, it's all been about getting to the point where we can compete," Recreation Director Denean Santos said of sending a team to state-level competition.
Regardless of the team's outcome at the state level, Santos said "it's a win-win" that they made it through the qualifying round and get the chance for some higher-level competition.
All Stars were selected from among the top players on the 11-12 teams in the Escalon recreation season.
