William “Dean” Jernigan passed away peacefully at his home in Escalon on August 31, 2015 at the age of 77. Dean was born on August 28, 1938 in Summerfield, Oklahoma to Cecil Jernigan and Ruth Carlton. He has been a resident of the Escalon area for the past 67 years. Dean served in the US Army in 1956 before going to work as a bottler at a winery. After retirement, Dean enjoyed collecting model classic cars and fishing. Above all else Dean loved spending time with his family. He was a wonderful, caring husband, father and grandfather that will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Dean leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Shirley Jernigan, their children: Tammy Earnest of Portland, OR, Penney Anderson of Escalon and Rachel Peters also of Escalon, his siblings: Larry Carlton of Arkansas, Phyllis Schwerdtfeger of Modesto, Michael Carlton of Modesto and Drinda Tockey also of Modesto. Dean also leaves behind his six grandchildren. Dean is preceded in death by his siblings, Aline Roberts and Pauline Colm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapels. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Church, located at 175 South Bryan Ave., in Oakdale.
