Warren Joseph Sumetz, 90, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

He was born on July 1, 1921 in San Francisco to Joseph and Margarete (Huth) Sumetz. He attended the College of San Mateo after graduating from San Mateo High School in 1940. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent several years in South Lake Tahoe before coming to Escalon 30 years ago and eventually working for the SSJID. He valued his family, neighbors, and friends and looked forward to time spent with them.

Survivors include his brother Carl Sumetz of San Mateo; his daughter Sandra (Jim) Mangnuson of Escalon, and son Gary (Lou) Sumetz of Oregon; his grandchildren DJ Mangnuson, Diana (Stephen) Scott, Dave (Liz) Mangnuson, all of Escalon, Jodi Hammond of AK, Scott (Jennifer) Sumetz of AZ, Kelly Sumetz (Eric), Kim (John) Hughes, Seth (Natalie) Sumetz, all of OR and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Veryl, his sister Gertrude Schipper, and his grandson Joseph Mangnuson.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Burwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to: Escalon Community Ambulance, P.O. Box 212, Escalon, CA 95320.
