Dec. 8, 1927 – Dec. 15, 2018
Long obit pix.jpg

Verla and her twin sister Verda were born on December 8, 1927 in Madison, SD to Lauritz and Esther Ruste. They were last of five sisters that completed the family.

The family moved to Howard, SD where she grew up and graduated from high school. Upon completing school, she and her twin decided to join their two older sisters, Maxine and Jean in San Francisco, CA. The four sisters had an apartment together and all were employed in the City. Upon marriage, Verla moved to Missouri with her husband where they lived for many years. Verla was employed by Kraft Foods and worked in the office of the cheese plant there. In 1967, they decided to rejoin the family in California and Verla transferred to Kraft’s Regional Accounting center in San Francisco. She completed 35 years of employment with them in 1988 when she and her husband both retired on the same day. The family had gradually moved to the Modesto area so they joined them by moving to Salida. Verla is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Long, her parents Lauritz and Esther Ruste, sisters Maurgarete Judt, Maxine Loewenstein and Jean Specker. She is survived by her twin sister Verda Hollingsworth of Ripon, 14 nieces and nephews including Linda Pierce, Sharon Burke and Barbara Vrieling of Ripon who were loving caregivers when needed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 S. Palm Avenue in Ripon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Home. For condolences to the family, please visit her online guestbook at www.deeganfuneralchapels.com.
