Robert “Bob” Girling, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 7, 2019 in Modesto at the age of 93. Bob was born on February 3, 1926 to Barry and Catherine Girling in Portland, OR. In 1944, Bob enlisted in the US Army in field artillery and served in Europe during WWII. After the war ended, Bob reenlisted and served in Korea as a sergeant in the MPs and was discharged in 1947. After the military, Bob worked for General Motors for 30 years as a Production Supervisor. After he retired, Bob enjoyed restoring antique cars and his boat. Bob never took a day off. He would work seven days a week to provide for his family. He will be forever remembered for his strong work ethic and determination.
Bob leaves behind his sons, Harvey Girling (Cathy), Robert Girling, Jr. (Carol) and Richard Girling, along with his seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 72 years, Dorothy Girling.
Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Girling family. A graveside service with full military honors was held on Monday, April 15 at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
