Polly A. Xavier, 73, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2008 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Born in Iuka, Mississippi on December 4, 1935, she spent the last four years in Jamestown and lived the prior 18 years in Escalon.

Survivors include her two children, Jerry Dewayne Howard of Waterford and Cynthia Wiesel of Riverbank; three stepsons, Stan Xavier of Ripon, Danny Xavier of Oakdale and Michael Xavier of Manteca; two brothers Millard Swindle Jr. of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Jackie Swindle of Elaine, Arkansas; one sister Eloise Snowden of Elaine, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Tasha and Michael Wiesel; six step-grandchildren Travis, Taylor, Kristi, Rachel, Alexander and Jacob Xavier; and one great-granddaughter Delilah Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Xavier Jr.; her parents Walter and Katie Ann Doty; and two siblings, Billy Doty and Olean Swindle.

Polly will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many who loved reading, line dancing, gardening and attending plays at the Fallon House in Columbia.

Services were Friday, December 19, 2008 at Oasis of Hope Church in Riverbank.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Cancer Research for Children.
