Nick Bavaro

Nick Costantino Bavaro, 75, passed away Sept. 8, 2008.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 29, 1933 and moved to Modesto in 1947, later living in Escalon and Oakdale and then returning to Modesto in 2000. He graduated from Modesto High School and enjoyed dancing, karaoke and playing dominoes. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings.

He retired in 2002 from construction and was a building contractor for many years. Previously Mr. Bavaro spent many years farming peaches and almonds. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served two years aboard the USS Gloucester and two more years aboard the USS Bremerton in Japan and Korea.

Survivors include his son, Vito A. and Janice Bavaro of Escalon; two grandsons Lance and Amy Bavaro and Vicent Bavaro, both of Escalon; three great-granddaughters Emily, Ashlee and Courtnee Bavaro and one great-grandson John Bavaro, all of Escalon; sisters Angela Woerner, Mary Bavaro and Flora and Ron Todd, all of Modesto; brother Frank V. and Ellen Bavaro of Arroyo Grande and brother-in-law Alden Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vito F. and Frances N. Bavaro. Visitation was at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon on Thursday, Sept. 11 with Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escalon on Friday, Sept. 12. Burial was at Burwood Cemetery.
