MAYETTA “MAY” SELBY

The world lost an angel today with the passing of Mayetta (Bradfute) Selby, on August 10, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her children by her side.

Mayetta was born on October 18, 1937, in Escalon where she spent her childhood. She attended Escalon High School where she met the love of her life, Virgil Selby. After graduation, they were married and spent 64 wonderful years together before he passed in 2020.

She is survived by her son Gregory Selby, daughter Terry (Selby) White, and son Kelley Selby, all of Modesto. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her very special friends, Martin and Isabel Quesada, of Lodi.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Virgil Selby, Parents Robert (Doss) and Celona Bradfute, Sisters Virgie Martin and Wilma Gwin, and Brother Bob Bradfute.

Mayetta was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a stay at home Mom who spent all of her time with her children. She loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays which were usually at her home. It made her happy to have all of her family together. When she had some free time, she could be found outside tending to her beautiful flowers and vegetable garden.

Mayetta enjoyed life. She loved to laugh and have fun, making memories to last a lifetime. Many of those memories were made during vacations with her husband, family, and friends which she always looked forward to. She will truly be missed by everyone who knew her, but her memories will live on in our hearts forever.

A “Celebration of Life” for both, Virgil and Mayetta, will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 12 p.m. in the Social Hall of the Church of the Nazarene, 3901 E. Whitmore Ave., Ceres, CA 95307.
