Maury Marengo, a Stocktonian, passed away on August 7th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elves and Evelyn Marengo. Maury is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Janice, and his best friend and brother, Mark.

Maury earned a Master of Arts in History, with a Minor in Religion from the University of Pacific, Stockton, CA. He was a dedicated 8th Grade Teacher for 35 years at El Portal Middle School in Escalon, CA. Maury was also a knowledgeable and dedicated Docent at the Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA.

Maury had many interests and traveling with Janice was one of his favorites. Together they traveled extensively through Europe, visiting the historical sites that Maury had studied. He was a lifetime student of Astronomy, finding joy in showing people the Heavens through his telescopes. He enjoyed Archeology, visiting many excavation sites around the world. He loved books and he was an avid reader of historical Nonfiction even building a library of his books and textbooks.

He will be dearly missed by his family, lifelong friends, fellow docents, colleagues, and former students. Maury was a true Renaissance Man and gentleman, lover of animals, he relished the arts, theater and classical music. Maury will now be able to see the solar system first hand.

Funeral Arrangements have been made by Park View Mortuary, French Camp, CA. Visitation and Funeral will be held on Monday, August 15th at St. Bernadette’s Parish located at 2544 Plymouth Road, Stockton, CA. Rosary/Visitation at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, all donations may be made to the Haggin Museum Stockton in Maury’s honor.
