Matthew Ross Van Vliet, a resident of Escalon, passed away on Wednesday March 12, 2008. He was 27 years old.

Born on April 6, 1980, Van Vliet was an extremely special person. He endured a lot of pain through the past three years, and through it all he always thought of and cherished his family. He was an extremely hard worker who enjoyed music and riding motorcycles. He was a member of Calvary Community Church in Manteca and he also attended the Escalon Christian Reformed Church. He is at peace with God, and we will always remember and love his humor, integrity and most of all his love.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Wilma Van Vliet; his sister Wendi and her husband Joel Bryan; his nephews Garrett and Colton Bryan; his grandmother Willy "Oma" Hartkamp; and many other loving relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marion and Lena Van Vliet and Jake Van Vliet.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon. His graveside service will be on Saturday, March 15 at 10 a.m. at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon and his memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Escalon Covenant Church.

In honor of his grandmother Willy "aka Oma" Hartkamp, donations may be sent to Bethany Home 930 West Main Street, Ripon, CA 95366.
