Mary Elizabeth Nunes Augusto peacefully passed away at her home in Escalon January 26, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born May 1, 1939 to parents John and Mary Nunes in Byron, California. Mary was born in Byron on a Dairy, behind the church that she was baptized and received her First Communion at. She moved with her family to Escalon, when she was in the third grade and helped on the family dairy; went to St. Patrick’s Church where she went to CCD classes and was confirmed. In 1954 she was Queen for the Oakdale FES. She married Peter W. Augusto, Jr. in 1959 and they had six children. She worked as a Special Educational Teachers’ Aide for 23 years at El Portal Middle School and Dent Elementary School in the Escalon Unified School District. She volunteered at St. Patrick’s Church CCD Program and was a Van Allen 4-H Sewing Leader. She loved family, camping, and gardening. Mary was very proud of her Portuguese Heritage and loved her Catholic Faith, Family, and Friends. Mary was a member of: YLI #179, Our Lady of Fatima for 65 years, SPRSI, Our Lady of Fatima Celebration, Escalon and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Mary loved sewing, crocheting and embroidering for her family and friends. She was a wonderful Daughter, Granddaughter, Sister, Godchild, Aunt, Cousin, Godmother, Sister-in-law, Mother-in-law and Friend. Most of all she was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. We will remember, love, and miss her every day. Our Mom was the Heart of our Family and will be Forever in our Hearts.

Mary is survived by her children; Maria F. Dusi (Mario) of Escalon, Anna M. Augusto of Stockton, Theresa E. Augusto of Escalon, Diana R. Orgon (John) of Lodi, Angela L. Danero (Russ) of Lodi and Joshua P. Augusto of Escalon. Grandchildren include: Melanie E. Dusi, Anthony Dusi (Kylie), Katy Brake (Matt), Nathan Gobbell (Gabbie), Kelsey Marino, Raney Flood, Blake Flood (Desiree), Karli Flood, David Rall (Teresa), Amanda Shubert (Jayson), Adam Rall, Christopher Orgon, Elizabeth Orgon, Matthew Orgon, Noah Augusto, Andrew Murphy, Jacob Augusto and Jenna Augusto. Great grandchildren include: Tony and Josephine Elizabeth Dusi, Kali and Lexa Brake, Ezra and Mabel Gobbell (due March 1), Tristan, Gianna and Hudson Flood. She is also survived by her brother; Ed Nunes (Angela) of Escalon; Godmother’s, Velma Rivara and Dorothy Teixeira; Godchildren, Kenny Pombo, Ray Vaz, Jr., Nadine Nunes, Carri Rogers, Charlotte Mehl and Luann Drewrey. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary L Nunes; her husband, Peter W. Augusto; Brother, John Nunes; sister in-law, Shirley Augusto and sister, Eleanor Vaz.

Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Augusto family. A viewing will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St., Escalon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 1 p.m. with committal at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. A reception to continue celebrating Mary’s beautiful life will be at the Escalon Sportsman’s Club, 25195 East River Road, Escalon. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to Seva Hospice in memory of Mary E. Augusto.
