Mary Betty Schmitz

Mary “Betty” Schmitz, loving wife, mom and oma, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday, October 5, 2014, in Escalon, CA.  She was born on January 9, 1927, to the late Louie and Alice Grube.  Betty was raised in Ripon, and graduated from Ripon High School.  She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mel, daughter Ann Marie (Kevin) Winsness of Murray, UT, grandchildren,  Courtney, Taylor and Kennedy Winsness, brother,  George (Liz) Grube, three nieces and two nephews.

Betty became a beautician, and owned a beauty shop in Escalon.  In 1956, she went on a blind date with Mel, and they were soon married.  Betty and Mel had one daughter, Ann. 

Betty enjoyed camping with family and friend.  She also enjoyed knitting baby blankets, crocheting afghans, and working in her garden.  Betty will be lovingly remembered by friends and family for her giving spirit and strong faith.  She served as President of YLI, and was very active in her community.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Deegan Funeral Chapel.  Rosary will be on Monday, October 13, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with a Mass at 10:30 A.M.  Burial will immediately follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.  Donations can be made in memory of Betty to the Escalon Ambulance, P.O.
