Maria Sofia Nunes, 82, of Escalon passed away on Thursday, February 14 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
She was born on October 5, 1925 in Santo Antao S. Jorge Azores, and she enjoyed knitting, sewing, traveling to the coast, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Maria Alvarina Nunes of Ceres, Maria Evangelista Enes of Oakdale, Fernando Manuel Nunes of Escalon, and Luciano Brasil Nunes of Modesto; her grandchildren, Diane Maria Nunes of Escalon, Steve Manuel Nunes of Stockton, Cathy Maria Nunes of Oakdale, Sandy Maria Anderson of Escalon, David Manuel Nunes of Escalon, Tom Manuel Nunes of Escalon, Betsy Maria Bettencourt of Modesto, Stacy Maria Nunes of Ceres, John Cota Enes of Riverbank, Amanda Maria Nunes of Escalon, Mason Manuel Nunes of Escalon, Keith Luciano Nunes of Escalon, Scott Tadeus Nunes of Escalon, Allison Maria Nunes of Riverbank, Justin Nunes of Modesto; seven great grandchildren; and her sister Maria Alverina Borge of Salida.
She was preceded in death by her husband Luciano Nunes in 1981; her daughters Maria Gabriela Nunes and Maria Trindade Nunes; her parents Jose and Mariana Estevan; and her siblings Manuel Brasil Estevan, Maria Palmira Brasil, Maria de Lurdes Bettencourt, Venancio Silveira Brasil and Domingos Estevan.
Visitation was at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon. Her Rosary-Mass was at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, burial followed at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon.
