Manuel Ferreira Oliveira Jr., 89, passed away at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson on Friday, July 29.

He was born in Lathrop on Jan. 21, 1922 and had been a resident of Escalon for the past 57 years. He retired after working for 50-plus years for A.L. Gilbert of Oakdale as a fieldman. He was well known in the community and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church for many years.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, golfing, sitting on his front porch and gardening. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and loved attending their activities.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Lucille Oliveira of Escalon; a son, Manuel F. Oliveira, III and a daughter Cathlene Chapman, both of Escalon; grandchildren Joseph Oliveira of Ceres, Michael Chapman of Colorado, Robert Oliveira of Salida, Alicia Chapman of Escalon, Amanda Chapman of Escalon; and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon.

Rosary/Mass will be on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with burial following at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Escalon.
