Lucille Tobeck

A memorial service will be held at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 E. River Road, Escalon on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. for Lucille Tobeck, who passed away recently.

She was born in Pine City, Minnesota, daughter of Gust and Matilda Schwartzwald. She attended grammar school and high school and took one year of nurses training. She worked part time at Memorial Hospital in Pine City. It was there she began her interest in health care. She became aware of the human body and its needs.

In 1941 she married Orval Tobeck, who was a star shortstop for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He passed away in September 2009 after 68 years of marriage. They had two sons, Orval Byron who passed away in 2003, and Roger, who worked for United Airlines and lives in Livermore.

The Tobecks became interested in health care and food supplements. They traveled throughout the United States and abroad. Mrs. Tobeck became a cosmetic and fashion show consultant putting on fashion shows in various hotels throughout the bay area. The two were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Modesto.

Mrs. Tobeck was one of eight children: Walter, Clarence, Oscar, Eddie, Adeline, Esther and Janie. She was the last surviving sibling.

She made her home at Orangeburg Manor in Modesto participating in as many activities as possible.

Survivors include her son Roger (Jan); grandchildren Kristy (Keith) Switzer, David (Chris) Tobeck, all from Livermore and daughter-in-law Pamela and grandson Todd Tobeck of Twain Harte; and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She died of natural causes and will truly be missed by her family. Thanks are given to all her friends and caregivers.

After the service at Burwood, a luncheon will be hosted at 2413 Mission St., Escalon.
