REID K

It is with profound sadness that the family of Loren Russell Reid announces his passing on November 27, 2017 at the age of 78. He will be immeasurably missed. Loren was born on June 14, 1939 in Modesto, CA to Freeman and Grace (Harter) Reid, the third of four children (Glen, George, and Elaine). A lifelong resident of Escalon, CA, Loren lived a full and fruitful life of dairying and farming, working alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren.
After graduating from Escalon High School, Loren served as a tank commander in the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following his stint in the military, Loren met and married his wife Barbara (Layman), the love of his life, on January 28, 1961. They enjoyed 56 years of wedded bliss together. The couple was blessed with three children and a thriving dairy and farm, Reid Ranch, where they worked together each day. Loren was also a longtime member of the Cal-Dairy Board and Burwood Cemetery Board.
Loren leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara; children Randy (Lois), Doug, and Debbie (John) Veenstra; and grandchildren Jena (Mike) Wesselink, Danielle Veenstra, Julie Reid, Katie Veenstra, Derek (Aaliyah) Veenstra, and Brooke Reid. Loren also leaves behind his great-grandson Reid Wesselink, born a month ago and named in honor of Loren’s surname.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon with a reception to follow at Escalon Christian Reformed Church’s fellowship hall.
