Lela Denney, 87, passed away on Christmas Day at the Kaiser Hospital in Oakland.

She was born on May 3, 1920 in Tailholt, Oklahoma to George and Bertie Sanders. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed. She was a resident of Escalon for the past 66 years where she was a longtime member of the Escalon United Methodist Church.

Her husband of 67 years, Crawford Denney passed away on October 8, 2006. Together they enjoyed many years of RV traveling where they would enjoy fishing and camping with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters JoAn (Rex) Dykes of Clovis, Barbara George of Modesto and Jerri Breakfield of Manteca; her grandchildren Kelly McCue, Vicki Spry, Mark (Jayne) George, Tracy (Eric) Ogata, Connie (Scott Melvin) Breakfield and Jim (LaVaughan) Breakfield; her great grandchildren Brooke Solano, Rayannan Perez, Paige McCue, Dustin McCue, Shelbi Spry, Zachary Sequeira, Carson George, Catherine Ogata, Annie Ogata, Emily Breakfield and Ryan Breakfield; her great-great grandchildren Gavin Sandoval and Leeah Perez; her siblings Emma Lee Pixley, Sam Sanders, John Sanders and sister-in-law Jessie Winn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings Jerri Thorton and Bill Sanders, and her great-great grandson Phillip Perez.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St. in Escalon. Services will be on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m. at Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., burial will follow at Burwood Cemetery, 28320 East River Road in Escalon.
