Joao “John” Simoes passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 1, 2017 in Modesto at the age of 79. John was born on September 28, 1938 in the Azores then immigrated to California about 50 years ago and has been a resident of Escalon ever since.
John was an avid dairyman and took great pride in his work. He loved tending to his cows and chickens as well as his garden and his yard. John enjoyed making his homemade wine. He was an active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a devoted family man.
John leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Maria Simoes, his children; John Simoes (Tina), Lucy Simoes (Joe Amaral) and Christina Brown (Jeremy), his grandchildren: Michael Simoes, Zachary Simoes, Elijah Simoes, Angela Simoes, Courtney Amaral, Mariah Amaral, Dominic Amaral, Cody Brown and Lori Brown along with two great grandchildren, Milo and Nova Simoes along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John is preceded in death by his son, Manuel Simoes and his brother and two sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deegan Chapel in Escalon with rosary to begin at 6 p.m. Funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Road in Modesto.
