Joan Morrell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully on June 24 at home in Sonoma, CA, in the loving arms of her family. Joan was born on November 24, 1928 in Pioche, Nevada to Delbert Ross and Mary Helen Baldwin. As a young woman she moved to Utah where she met, fell in love with and married her life-long sweetheart John Morrell on August 9, 1947. Life led them to Escalon, CA where John pursued his teaching career and they wasted no time starting their family. Joan often recounted that as a young girl she loved babies and always wanted to be a mother. And what a great mother she was! She encouraged all her children to be loving and supportive adults and good students.
She committed herself to giving them stability, the example of a good work ethic and uncompromising family values. Joan was a tireless volunteer and spent endless hours supporting her family’s participation in sports, educational and community activities. Joan was employed for many years in the wine industry working in a variety of jobs which she loved and where she made many life-long friends. Joan loved to travel and explore the world and upon retirement she and John traveled widely and often and she made friends everywhere she went. Most of all she will be remembered for her beaming smile, her easy laugh and unconditional love for her family. Joan was a truly caring and gracious woman who loved and was loved deeply by her husband and family.
Joan was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, John Morrell, her beloved son William Morrell and cherished grandchildren Darby Morrisroe and Alexander Trussell. Joan is survived by her children Connie Morrisroe (Bill), Susan Nieuwenhuijs (Paul), Douglas Morrell, Carol Trussell (Brian), Mary Reniker (Matt), and Brian Morrell (Todd), grandchildren Jamie Clayton (Paul), Sara Nieuwenhuijs (Jeremy), Erin Nieuwenhuijs (Reid), Spencer Trussell, Ben Reniker (Jessica), Kristin Lewis (Jacob) and Derek Reniker, great-grandchildren Charlotte Clayton, Lily Clayton, Wyatt Lewis, Allen Lewis and Evelyn Lewis as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.
