Jewell Milton ‘Milt’ Gordon, 94, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 in Woodland, California.

Born Jan. 23, 1919 in Colusa, California he was raised on the Gordon Ranch, four miles south of Princeton, California. He was a descendent of early Central Sacramento Valley Murdoch, Compton, Packer and Gordon families, and was greatly loved by his family, friends and community. He was exceptionally kind hearted and was always available to lend a helping hand.

A graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1937, and proud Navy veteran of WW II, his final station was at Marpee Point, Saipan. A graduate of the California College of Mortuary Science, Los Angeles; serving Franklin-Downs Mortuary, Modesto, California and FD Sweet and Son Mortuary, Willows. He was also an Office Manager at Barber Rowland Fertilizer and Farm Chemical Company, Loshe Mill, and Michaud Aviation and District Supervisor for Professional Apartment Management Co. (PAM)

‘Milt’ was a 55-year member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, 1786, Willows. He proudly served as a member of the Hospital Advisory Board of Glenn General Hospital, Willows and was Past President of the Glenn County Unit, American Cancer Society.

He was known as a talented pianist, and he performed at many Elks Lodge functions and community-wide events. As a member of the Methodist Church, he was the pianist for special services and Community Sing-alongs and was a faithful Christian. Many organizations benefited from his wood-working craftsmanship, one-of-a-kind bird houses, uniquely crafted to raise funds for community service projects. The aviary he built for his birds and his attention to their every need was a special tribute to his loving character.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Powers-Gordon; sisters Peggy Bach and Phyllis Elkins (Dick); children Judy Quattrin (Gary), David Duckart (Vivienne Parker), Doug Duckart (Charlene); grandchildren Michele, Andrea, Allison and Heather; and 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Vernon Gordon and Beulah Saunders-Gordon, brother William Gordon (Lois) and wife Emily, brother-in-law Joe Bach.

Graveside service will be on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m., Burwood Cemetery, 28320 E. River Road, Escalon.

Memorial service will be Thursday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m., Elks Lodge, 150 S. Shasta St., Willows, CA.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Milt’s special friends and neighbors who shared their love and support. The loving and professional care of St. John’s Retirement Village, Manor West, Stollwood Convalescent Hospital Staff, Woodland and Yolo Hospice was outstanding and the family will be forever grateful.
