Irma Grace Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully in Modesto, CA on July 31, 2020, with her loving family by her side. Irma was born September 10, 1930 in Sweetwater, Texas to Lee and Maudie Fulbright. In her early childhood, the family moved to Arizona, and then to Blythe, CA where they farmed citrus groves. In 1948, the family moved to Escalon and that year she graduated from Escalon High School.
In 1949, Irma met and married the love of her life, James Johnson. As newlyweds, they lived in Stockton for 5 years. In 1950, they welcomed their first son, James. Then, Michael followed in 1951. In 1963, Irma started working for Escalon Packers. In 1966, they welcomed their third son, Eric. A few years later in 1969, Jeff was born. Together they had four sons whom they loved very much. Not only was Irma loyal to her family and her job, but she was loyal and committed to the events she took part in. She was a member of the Escalon Art League, as well as the El Portal PTA Bowling League. Irma enjoyed gardening, playing her 12-string guitar and piano, she loved music. After 37 years with Escalon Packers, Irma decided it was time to retire and enjoy her Golden Years with her husband and family.
Irma is survived by her children; James Johnson (Sandy) of Boise, ID, Michael Johnson (Christine) of Escalon, Eric Johnson (Linda) of Modesto. Her grandchildren; Aaron Johnson, Rory Johnson (Megan), Jared Johnson (Shae), Justin Johnson (Jessica) and George Johnson. Great-Grandchildren; Lily, Ailee, Zachariah, Eloise, Zoey, Virgil, Brynn, Tori and Samantha. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, James, her son, Jeff and granddaughter, Bryana.
Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Johnson family. A viewing was Thursday, August 6 at 10 a.m., followed by a Live Stream chapel service at 11 a.m., and a private family interment at Burwood Cemetery.
