Gladys Evelyn Yater passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 10, 2018 at the age of 95. Gladys was born the oldest of seven children on March 8, 1923 in Escalon, CA to Walfred and Ruby Vilen. Gladys was a lifelong resident of the Escalon and Farmington communities.
Gladys loved to be outdoors, either gardening at home or sitting around a campfire with family and friends at their cabin in the mountains. Gladys was also a fantastic cook; she loved to prepare delicious meals for her entire family. Above all else, Gladys loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren who, along with her entire family, will miss her deeply.
Gladys leaves behind her children, Suzanne Beauchemin (Mike) and Bob Yater (Melinda) and her daughter-in-law, Dianne Yater, her grandchildren, Brett Yater (Julie), Jim Beauchemin (Danielle), Mac Beauchemin, Rob Yater (Angela), Rick Yater (Theresa), and John Yater (Mary) along with her great grandchildren, Bailey, Evalyn, Emalie, Robert and Kirsten. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roscoe Yater, her son, Raymond Yater and her siblings, Mabel Cox, Jean Juhl, Alice Dahl, Lawrence Vilen and Lois Graham.
Deegan Chapel is honored to serve the Yater family. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 11 a.m. at the O’Connor Woods Retirement Community in Stockton. Donations in Gladys’ memory may be made to Vitas Hospice or to the O’Connor Woods residence fund.
