Gladys Nelson, 88, passed away quietly at home on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012.

Born on March 26, 1924 in Wilmot, South Dakota to Danish immigrant parents, Gladys Christiansen moved to Escalon in 1943 where she met and married Wallace "Wally" Nelson, who predeceased her in 1984. She lived in Escalon for the remainder of her 88 years.

She was able to strike up a conversation with anyone and her accepting and generous nature enabled her to make loyal friends. She loved her family, her friends and her locally famous flower garden with limitless passion and joy.

Survivors include her son Mark and daughter-in-law Koleti, her daughter Lynne (Nelson) deBie and son-in-law Scott; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Mavis Krone of Browns Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at Burwood Cemetery on Nov. 9 and a memorial service will be held at Saron Lutheran Church of Escalon on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m.
