Freda Rivinius

Freda D. Rivinius, 86, passed away in Modesto on Tuesday morning, March 30.

She was born on August 14, 1923 in Scotts bluff, Nebraska.

She was very active in the Escalon Methodist Church for 63 years. She loved teaching special children at Dent Elementary School. Mrs. Rivinius loved to travel and garden, the biggest joy in her life was her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of almost 64 years, Walter A. Rivinius of Escalon; her children Steven and his wife Winnie Rivinius of Farmington, and Kristy and her husband Mark Nicholson of Oakdale; her sisters Elizabeth Meitz of Fresno, Mary Jean Pirtle of Lodi, and Ruth Hyske, also of Lodi; her grandchildren Faith Oosterman of Escalon, Philip Nicholson of Virginia, Andrew Rivinius of Modesto, Matthew Rivinius of Modesto and Janay Rivinius of Oakdale; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Mary Melcher, and her siblings Albert Melcher, David Melcher, Ann Johnson-Grahm, Rose Stabbert and Bertha Normington.

Graveside services were Friday, April 2 at Burwood Cemetery. Memorial service followed at Escalon United Methodist Church.
