Evelyn Anderson Schmidt, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House surrounded by loving family and friends.

Born on Aug. 1, 1927, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, Auntie and friend.

Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Escalon. She taught tennis and worked at several local businesses until meeting and marrying Marvin Schmidt in 1947. She was a wonderful mother, very active in her children's lives.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, drawing, playing and shopping. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life such as family time, taking pictures and watching the birds in her yard.

From her mother she learned the pleasure of entertaining family and friends, something she enjoyed her entire life. So many memories were created. Nothing made her happier than a house full of guests.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Marvin Schmidt; daughter Linda Gentry and son Randy, and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Anderson and Jennifer Schmidt, Paula Mann and Matt Gentry; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Anderson; her brother, Don; her sisters, Margaret, Helen, Hazel, Myrtle, Arlene, May, and Adeline; and her daughter Cathleen.

Her family would like to thank Hospice House, their church family and all of their family and friends for all their help and prayers in the last few weeks.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 4 at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon. A Memorial Service was Sunday, Jan. 6 at Escalon Presbyterian Church.

Memorials can be made to: Escalon Presbyterian Church-Anderson Schmidt Mission Fund, 1612 First St., Escalon, CA 95320; Alexander Cowen Hospice House, 4368 Spyres Way Modesto, CA 95356; or Escalon Historical Society, 1630 Main St., Escalon, CA 95320.
