Erma Ruth Shaeffer, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 4 at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She was a resident of Modesto.

She was the daughter of Arnold Willard Soderberg and Ardella Rebecca McGuire.

Mrs. Shaeffer graduated from LDS Seminary, as well as from the Henegar Business College in Salt Lake City, with a secretarial degree.

She and her husband moved to Escalon in 1974 with their three sons and lived on Seidner Avenue for 22 years. Two of their sons, Rick and Bret, graduated from Escalon High School.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for many years in the Sunday School, Relief Society, Young Women and Primary Programs of the Church.

She enjoyed doing all sorts of arts and crafts. She always had a beautiful rose garden. She especially enjoyed decorating for the holidays and baking as well. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Zane Leroy Shaeffer; three sons, Zane, Rick, and Bret; daughter-in-laws, Cathy and Shauna; sister, June Hansen of Midvale, UT; and grandchildren, Zane, Julie, Aubrie, Zach, Adam, Ari, Josh, Jared, Riley, Kayla, and Dallin; and great-grandchildren, Anika, Cade, Anna, Eva, Mae and Zane.

Viewing is at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 800 East Sylvan Ave., Modesto. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at the Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle.
