Elwanda Jean (Hendrix) Porter, 63, of Oakdale died Saturday, Oct. 30 at her home.

A native of Ava, Missouri, she lived in Oakdale for 15 years and prior to that, in Riverbank for 35 years. She was a homemaker for 44 years. She was a 1959 Oakdale High School graduate. Her hobbies included flying, RVing, stitching, reading and being active in civic groups. She was a member of Riverbank Assembly of God Church, the Fun Seekers Flying Club and River Valley Stitchers. She was named Riverbank Citizen of the Year in 1984, was a past president of Federated Woman's Club in Riverbank, past chairman of the Riverbank Cheese and Wine Festival - 1979, and chaired the Miss Riverbank Pageant, as well as the Riverbank Christmas Parade. She was also past president of several NCO Wives Clubs with the U.S. Air Force.

She is survived by her husband, Sherman Porter of Oakdale; children, Steven Porter of Porterville and Cindy Garcia of Escalon; father, Chalmer Hendrix of Riverbank; siblings, Carroll Hendrix of Modesto and Norman Hendrix of Riverbank; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.
