Edna Lea Schuckman, 92, of Stockton died Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

She was born on July 21, 1917 in Redig, South Dakota to Andreas and Martha Schmidt. Her parents and siblings moved to the Lodi area and later to Modesto and Escalon.

She moved to Stockton after World War II to start her life-long career as an executive secretary. She had many friends and fond memories of her work at Stockton College, San Joaquin Medical Society and Stockton Teachers' Association.

Later in her life, she met and fell in love with Bill Schuckman and was fondly thought of as "Grandma" by Elaine Schuckman Fox of Portland, Oregon, Dr. Anne Schuckman of Santa Monica and Emily Schuckman Matthews of San Francisco, California and as a warm and caring stepmother to William (Rita) Schuckman and Richard Schuckman. During their 20-year marriage, Bill and Edna loved taking road trips and extensively toured the Oregon Coast, the Rockies and the Appalachians, visiting friends and relatives along the way until Bill's death in 2005.

Mrs. Schuckman was a loyal, kind and gentle soul who always found time for her friends, family and anyone who needed help.

Survivors include her son, Robert Boyles of Stockton; and brothers Marvin (Evelyn) Schmidt and Delmar Schmidt of Escalon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Irma and Hilda and brother Ralph as well as John M. Boyles and Pat Patterson.

Funeral services were Sunday, July 18 at Evergreen Chapel, Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.
