Dorothy Mae Girling passed away peacefully on February 12, 2016 in Modesto at the age of 89. Dorothy was born on Sept. 26, 1926 to Burnie and Frances Collins in Oakland, CA. Dorothy has been a resident of Escalon, CA for the past 40 years.

Dorothy was very active in volunteer work. She would give her time teaching children art lessons and would also volunteer at the library and the Escalon Museum. She was a proud member of the Valley Art Association. Along with her family, painting was Dorothy’s life and passion. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother that will be deeply missed. Dorothy leaves behind her husband of nearly 72 years, Robert Girling. The two met when they were only 13 years old and would have celebrated 72 years of marriage this April. Dorothy also leaves behind her three sons, Harvey Girling (Cathy), Robert Girling Jr. (Carol) and Richard Girling, along with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dorothy also leaves behind her brother, Leonard Collins (Betty) of Boise, ID.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapels. A visitation was scheduled for Monday, Feb. 22, from 2 p.m. to 5 p. m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon. A graveside service was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. at Burwood Cemetery: 28320 East River Road in Escalon. Donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Escalon Community Ambulance.
