Dorothy Frances Patch Burke, 89, originally from Easton, CA, died in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Born in Fresno in 1920, she married James O. Burke in San Francisco on May 12, 1945. She and her husband and their children lived wherever the Navy sent them, finally settling in Escalon in 1959. For the past 15 years, she lived in Santa Cruz with her daughter Betty and son-in-law Ed Leipelt.

Survivors include her children, Bob and Donna Burke, Betty and Ed Leipelt, James 'Bud' and Mary Lee Burke, Barbara and Woody Hall, Bill and Lori Burke, and Donna and David Dugo; 19 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Burke; her brothers, Marion, Les and Don; and sister, Betty Patch Rudolph,

She was a joy and inspiration to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Per her wishes, her children will have a private ceremony to disperse her ashes. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
