Doris May Schafer Tompkins, 79, died on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto.

She was born in Oroville, Washington on Aug. 21, 1931 to Fulton and Edith Schafer who preceded her in death.

She was a life long resident of Washington State and moved to Las Vegas to care for her terminally ill son Kenneth until his death. She then moved to Modesto, CA to reside with her granddaughter during her own long battle with multiple illnesses.

She started attending Trinity Church in Escalon with her granddaughter and became attached to many in the congregation. She was a great cook not only as her career but also creating favorite dishes for her very large family. Music was her passion; she enjoyed all kinds of music and would make time to karaoke or listen to bands whenever possible. She was an avid Elvis fan and a collector of salt and pepper shakers that made it very easy to buy for her during the holidays. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her.

Survivors include her children, Larry Perry of Hoquiam, WA, Elisabeth Maigatter of Lacey, WA, Steve Perry of Port Angeles, WA, Jim Perry of Russellville, AK, and Roy Perry of Las Vegas, NV; her sister, Marion Lawrence of East Wenatchee, WA; 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Church in Escalon.

Remembrances may be made in her name to Trinity Church, Women's Ministries of Escalon.

Arrangements by Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon with an online guestbook available at www.deeganfuneralchapels.com.
