DORIS ELLEN LAGIER
LAGIER Doris K

Doris was born to George and Neosha Boyd at their farm near Modesto, California, on January 26, 1921. She attended Ransom School followed by finishing school. She worked for a time as a nanny. She met recently discharged naval war veteran, Clifford Lagier, and the two were married on May 18, 1946 in Reno, Nevada. Doris was a homemaker and a partner with her husband helping to work their almond ranch for over 50 years. Having grown up during the Great Depression, they understood the value of hard work, frugality, perseverance, and self-reliance. In the late 1950’s, they together built a little cabin entirely by hand, on the shore of Lake Almanor, California. This became their special haven of peace and beauty where many wonderful family memories were created.
Doris had great respect for, and a tremendous love of, nature. She was a diligent steward of the environment, always careful to leave as small a footprint as possible. A passionate gardener, she created a yard of colorful cottage style flower beds. Family and friends delighted in wandering the paths, enjoying the amazing variety of plants, birds and butterflies. A familiar sight at local nurseries, Doris would often strike up a conversation with the other customers, her enthusiasm contagious. Doris loved spending time with her family and friends. If laughter and lively chatter could be heard at a gathering, Doris was sure to be involved. People loved her quick wit and fun sense of humor.
Doris died peacefully at home on August 24 surrounded by her beloved family. She will be missed beyond words. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, George and Neosha Boyd, her brother Warren Boyd, and her dear husband, Clifford. She is survived by her children, Randy Lagier (Mary), Daniel Lagier (Teri), Debi Scoles (Al) and six grandchildren, Brigitte, Jeremiah, Tom, Patrick, Laura and Sophia. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In loving memory, donations may be sent to Community Hospice at 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
